Museums to visit in Thonburi

Okay, so till now, I have portrayed Thonburi, Bangkok as a place which only hosts some great architectural beauties and monuments. Well, though it is true to the extreme extent, it must also be mentioned here that Thonburi is a place which also has around six museums; don’t get flabbergasted, I really mean it. Now, you may be wondering as to why there are so many museums and what all do they have in store. Let’s see for ourselves…

The Bangkok Noi Museum

One of the most renowned and most prominent museums of Bangkok, the Bangkok Noi museum is located in Thonburi in close proximity to the Bangkok Noi Canal. This museum was built by the BMA (Bangkok Metropolitan Authority) with the aim to preserve, restore and to showcase the rich traditional cultures of the local communities. It contains pieces of information regarding the evolution of the Bangkok city right from the reign of the early western traders such as Ayutthaya. The It has some great pieces of information which illustrates the evolution of the local communities and their lifestyle. It is really a visual treat to visit this place.

The Royal Barge National Museum

The Royal Barge National MuseumIf you start walking from the Phra Pinklao Bridge in Thonburi and follow the signals and signs you will reach the Royal Barge Museum within a few minutes. This museum hosts several Royal Barges which were used for Royal ceremonies such as Kathin. Most of these royal barges depict the characters of the epic Ramayana and are decorated beautifully with precious stones and jewels so as to be used in case of any Royal occasion. Once again, you will love seeing these giants with so much glamour and ornate designs.

House of Museums, Thonburi

Located in Khlong Pho Land, this museum is easily accessible via road. This museum has a unique feature of exhibiting both the old as well as modern day items thereby showing a blend of the past with the present. The items such as toys, gifts, utensils, etc. are arranged chronologically and give you a detailed idea as to how the lifestyle of the people of Bangkok used to be and how it has evolved to something like this at present. The museum is complete which shows a legacy of Bangkok at past which is being inherited at present.

Sunthorn Museum

Sunthorn MuseumOkay, now if you feel bored with these antique pieces and want something exciting which will enthrall you, you need to visit the Sunthorn Museum. This museum is perhaps one of its kind which exhibits various items ranging from the World War period to present date. It even showcases old BMW bikes which were used during the World War. So, it may prove to be pretty exciting for you.
